How do I filter by Major Industry Groups or SIC ranges?

When you’re searching by industry in Salesgenie, you’ll notice that businesses are grouped by SIC codes (Standard Industrial Classification codes). The first two digits of an SIC code represent a Major Industry Group—a broad category covering many business types. For example:

  • 20–39 = Manufacturing
  • 52–59 = Retail Trade

Starting your search at the Major Industry Group level is helpful if you want to build a broad base of prospects. From there, you can drill down into more detail:

  • 2-digit SIC codes: Major groups (broadest category).
  • 4-digit SIC codes: Sub-classifications within those groups.
  • 6-digit SIC codes: Very specific industry types.

To expand a category, simply click the “+” symbol next to it. Each group may open into 4-digit or 6-digit classifications.

Note: Not all sub-classifications (4-digit) or specific industry types (6-digit) may be listed. Selecting a group or sub-classification will automatically include all business types that fall under it.

Pro Tip: Selecting a group or sub-classification will automatically include all businesses underneath it. This makes it easy to cover an entire category without having to select each specific industry one by one.

There are 11 Major Industry Groups; the following are the first two digits of their industrial classification code:

  • Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing (01–09)
  • Mining (10–14)
  • Construction (15–17)
  • Manufacturing (20–39)
  • Transportation (40–49)
  • Wholesale (50–51)
  • Retail Trade (52–59)
  • Finance, Insurance & Real Estate (60–67)
  • Services (70–89)
  • Public Administration (91–98)
  • ·Non-classified Establishments (99)
