Getting Started
How do I start a direct mail campaign?

Salesgenie makes creating, designing, and launching direct mail campaigns from your saved prospect lists easy. The process walks you through six steps, from naming your campaign to approving your design and scheduling your send date. At any stage, you can Save your progress, go Back to make edits, or click Next to continue.

Step 1 of 6: Create Your Campaign

Start by creating a new direct mail campaign.

  • From the left navigation panel, click Direct mail
  • Click Create new campaign
  • Enter a name for your campaign so you can easily identify it later

Pro Tip: Pick a descriptive name (e.g., “Spring Promo – Dallas HVAC”) so you can quickly find it in reporting later.

Step 2 of 6: Add Recipients

Next, select a saved list of businesses or consumers to mail. Saved lists power your campaign, so ensure you’ve built and saved the correct one in advance.

  • Under Recipients and Sender details, click Add recipients
  • Choose from your Saved Lists and confirm the correct list is selected
  • Click Add and your list will appear with the total number of addresses
  • (Optional) Add a seed list of up to 2 addresses if you’d like to receive sample copies at no charge
  • Click Save to lock in your recipients, or Edit later if you want to change them

Step 3 of 6: Select Mail Class and Sender Details

Now, decide how quickly you want your mail delivered and add your sending information.

  • Under Mail class, choose one of the following:
  • First Class: Arrives in 3–5 business days; forwarding and return service included
  • Standard Mail: Arrives in 10–14 business days; no forwarding or return service
  • In the sender’s physical address section, enter your physical address (this will appear as the return address on the mail piece)
  • Save your changes before moving to the next step

Step 4 of 6: Design Your Postcard

This is where you customize the creative. You can reuse a prior design, start from a template, or design from scratch—watch changes update in real time.

  • Choose a size:
  • Standard Postcard: 4.25" × 6"
  • Jumbo Postcard: 8.5" × 5.5"
  • Panoramic (Sumo) Postcard: 11.5" × 5.5"

Pick where to start: Begin with the Front or the Back of the postcard

  • USPS addressing: Postal addressing requirements are automatically implemented and displayed on the Back
  • Templates and uploads: Choose from dozens of templates, upload your images, and enter your text
  • Preview and download: Click “Download A Template” and select Front or Back to download a PDF at any time
  • Zoom and focus tools: Use the magnifying glasses to zoom in or out, or switch to Full Screen to fine-tune your design
  • Right-hand design tools: Use “Layer Order” in the first three tools to control which elements appear on top
  • “Add Text”: Choose fonts and sizes, apply basic styling and alignment, rotate text, add effects, and personalize
  • “Add Image”: Browse four template libraries with hundreds of designs and stock photos or upload your own images
  • “Add Shape”: Select from 17 shapes (including lines), adjust width, rotate, add effects, and set border and fill colors
  • “Edit Background”: Adjust background color or imagery for the base layer

Step 5 of 6: Additional options and proof approval

At this stage, you’ll finalize the look and details of your postcard before it goes out the door. This includes adding optional finishes and carefully reviewing a proof of the design to make sure everything looks perfect.

  • Card coatings: Choose Gloss Laminate, Gloss UV, or Matte Laminate
  • Approve your proof: Carefully review Front and Back, then check “I approve the mail proof.” to confirm spelling, content, and layout
  • View a large proof: Open the downloadable PDF proof to review at full size

Note: The content of your mail is subject to approval by a Salesgenie marketing expert

Step 6 of 6: Schedule and checkout

In the final step, you’ll decide when your postcards should be mailed and complete the order. This locks in your campaign and moves it to production.

  • Schedule: Select the mail Date; the Estimated Arrival window updates based on geography and mail class
  • Confirm and pay: Click Confirm to proceed to Order Summary, review charges, agree to Terms & Conditions, and complete checkout

Pro Tip: You can proceed as far as you’d like, Save your progress, come back to make changes, and return any time to finish and launch
